The Must-have Drinks for Summer

The dry, hot, harsh winds that blow across during the summer brings in many ills. But the most scary, silent and avoidable among them is the heat stroke. Merely gulping cold water is not effective and you still feel thirsty. Ditto for quaffing colas and other soft drinks (aargh!).

Invest in a built-in A/C that travels with you everywhere! All you need to do is to spend 5-10 minutes to make and drink copious amounts of the summer coolers. The Bael juice and the mango panna are staples I love to have. And also, buttermilk and lassi. And of course, a whole host of melon drinks!

Including melons is a great idea in any form. I made this drink with the pretty orange melon. I used the thin variety of cucumber, but you can add any that is available. All you have to do is to mix equal parts of chopped melon and cucumber in a blender. Wash and add fresh leaves of mint (pudina), some pink or black salt and sugar. Adding jeera or cumin powder is also an option. Blend well. Add a few ice cubes and serve with small bits of chopped mint.

Pieces of the melon and cucumber with other ingredients are loaded in the blender
Load the blender up to the mark specified or blend in two lots. Never overload.

PRO TIP: Freeze the blended mixture in the ice cubes. Take it out when you wish to have the drink and add water and mint leaves. Your juice is ready!

You can also make and take the blended mixture along, with ice cubes, in a wide-mouthed flask. Add water, mix and drink it at the time when you start feeling hungry in the mid-morning.

Healthy, low calorie and a totally must-have juice this summer. Go for it!
